Hazen ADAMS Obituary

YORKTOWN - Hazen L. Adams, 88, passed away on Nov. 3, 2010. Hazen was a native of Sharon, Kan., where he grew up on a wheat farm.
After graduating from high school in 1942, he joined the Navy during our country's most challenging conflict, WWII. Hazen thoroughly enjoyed a 28 year career in the Navy. A military highlight of his career was the accomplishment of flying around the world. As a chief petty officer, Hazen was a veteran of three wars, WWII, Korean and Vietnam. During his military career, he was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal with seven Bronze Stars and National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Star. Over the years, Hazen was a generous contributor to veteran causes. After retiring from the Navy, he became a resident of Yorktown and enjoyed a successful career in the insurance industry. He was a co-founder of HP Insurance Center and was an active business leader in the Hampton Roads Insurance Community for more than 15 years.
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Inez Adams; son, Willard Castle and his wife, Betty of Yorktown; four brothers, Bill, Melvin, Donald and Dean Adams; two grandchildren, Tammy Stough and her husband, Mark, and Deanna Huhak; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Hayley Stough.
Flowers are welcomed. Memorials may be made in Hazen's memory to the Fleet Reserve Association, F.R.A. 125, N. West Street, Alexandria, VA 22314.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at Peninsula Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, at Peninsula Funeral Home with burial to follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens with full military honors.

Our deepest sympathy to Hazen's wife Inez and all members of Hazen's family. We have lost another member of the "Greatest Generation", a genuine American hero of three wars that Hazen participated in to help all of us to enjoy our freedom and way of life as we know it today. Let us never forget the contributions and sacrifices that he made during his long career in the US Navy. And as the saying goes, "Less we Forget". Charles and Beverly Cardaro
