Jesse E. COLLINS

YORKTOWN - Jesse E. Collins, 69, of Yorktown, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010.
Jesse was a native of Franklin County, N.C., where he grew up. He moved to Newport News in 1960. Jesse attended the Apprentice School and worked as a supervisor in the Pipe Department of the Newport News Shipbuilding for 43 years, and retired in 2003. Those that worked with him enjoyed doing so and said he was someone who valued his work ethic. After retirement, Jesse worked part-time for Enterprise Rent-a-Car for six years. He enjoyed the friendships made while working for Enterprise.
Jesse loved the outdoors, and spent lots of time hunting and fishing. He held a special friendship with the men he hunted with and will be truly missed by them all. He valued his family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially during the holidays and on family vacations. He attended New Covenant Church.
Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, W. Floyd Collins and Eleanor Collins.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Doris Collins; his son, Keith E. Collins and his wife, Lorie of Newport News; his daughter, Gena D. Clark and her husband, Kirk of Sand Coulee, Mont.; three grandchildren, Brittany and Ashleigh Collins, and Hannah Clark; and one brother, Nelson Collins and his wife, Joyce of Louisville, Ky.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the DaVita Dialysis Center, where Jesse was a patient for the past two years. Also, thanks to the medical staff at Riverside Medical Center, who cared for him.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6, at Peninsula Funeral Home in Newport News. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, at New Covenant Church, with Mark Johansson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to New Covenant Church's Building Fund.
