Sheron THOMAS Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Sheron H. Thomas, 52, passed away at home on Dec. 1, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer.
A native of Waverly, Tenn., Sheron worked as a directory assistance operator after high school. She moved to Newport News after marriage in 1986. Although she had several jobs over the years (insurance clerk, preschool teacher, shipping clerk and marketing assistant), her favorite job was mom and housewife. She generously volunteered many hours with the PTA.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Jean Triplett; and her biological father, Thomas Hulan.
Survivors include her husband of 24 years, Mike Thomas; son, Joshua; father, James Triplett; sisters, Karen Hulan and Shelia Triplett; mother-in-law, Ann Bowie; and sister-in-law, Debby Oakley and her husband, Ronnie; as well as many nieces, nephews and loving friends.
Special thanks to the staff at Virginia Oncology, especially Dr. Scott Kruger and nurse, Denise Stanfield; the nurses on the oncology floor at the Sentara Careplex; and all the dear friends who selflessly assisted with Sheron's care.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, at Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church, and will be followed by a reception in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Dear Mike and Josh,
No words can express the sadness we felt when we heard of Sheron's passing. Although I didn't see her often since the boys graduated, we aways seemed to pick up our conversation where we left off. We will always remember her as a warm, caring lady who loved her life and the people around her. Josh, she was always so proud of you and your accomplishments, and we spent many minutes talking about UVA. We wish you peace and comfort, knowing she is smiling that beautiful smile down on both of you.
