Alexander GAINES Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Alexander Gaines was born on July 15, 1922, and passed away Dec. 23, 2009, after a long illness.
He served in the U.S. Army, retired from the Newport News Shipyard and was one of the founding members of Cornerstone Assembly of God.
He is survived by his sister and caretaker, Lillie Adams of Newport News; his daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Dwight Coad of Freemont, Calif.; his daughter-in-law, Ruth Ida Gaines of North Carolina; his son, Joseph C. Townsell 'JD' of Folsom, Calif.; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives from Virginia, New York and California.
A homegoing service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at Cornerstone Worship Center International, 55 Tide Mill Lane, Hampton, with Dr. Gerard H. Ruff, Senior Pastor, officiating. Entombment will be held in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at Berceuse Funeral & Cremation Traditions and one hour prior to the service, Tuesday, at the church.
