Alice CARNEAL Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Mrs. Carneal, a native of Baltimore, Md., passed at her residence in Newport News on June 15, surrounded by her family and friends.
Mrs. Carneal was born on August 12, 1930, in Baltimore to William and Anna Payson (Strunge). She attended catholic school in the local area and upon graduation, she worked as a secretary for the City of Baltimore Transportation Authority. She married Owen H. Carneal on Oct. 11, 1959.
During her lifetime, Mrs. Carneal lived in many different states across the country, but her heart was always in Maryland. As her children grew up, she loved to volunteer at their schools, and she loved to teach children to read.
Mrs. Carneal is survived by her daughter, Anna; and by her two sons, Andrew and Owen Jr. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Sue; her three grandsons, Tyler, Jordan, and Nathaniel; and Andrew's fiancEe, Dawn. She will be sorely missed by grand dogs Foxy and Sadie.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Owen; her brother, Will; her two sisters, Dorothy and Edith; and by her baby, Charles.
Visitation will be held at Ruck Funeral Home in Towson, Md., on June 18, at noon. Immediately following the visitation, a graveside service will be held at Moreland Memorial Park Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
Mrs. Carneal's family would like to give special thanks to the loving caregivers at Visiting Angels and Personal Touch Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Ronald McDonald House.
She will be greatly missed. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Rip, Anne and Andrew,
I was so sorry to hear about Aunt Alice's passing. She and my mother shared a very special bond. I have many wonderful memories of the two of them talking and laughing for hours in my mother's bedroom in NC. I'll never forget Aunt Alice's soft voice. I know you will miss her terribly. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I would love to reconnect with the three of you. My email address is [email protected]. Fondly,
Jenny Carneal Petri
