Alma FIRESHEETS Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - Alma Adams Firesheets, 82, loving widow of Thomas T. Firesheets was promoted to glory and into the presence of her Lord on Saturday, May 8, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer.
A native of Charles City, Va., she was a Newport News resident for 53 years before moving to Williamsburg to live with her daughter.
Mrs. Firesheets was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, her parents, Richard and Doris Adams, and 10 siblings.
Alma had a great love for nature and all God's creatures. She especially enjoyed many hours of watching and feeding the birds and squirrels that came to visit. She loved camping and vacationing, as well as spending many hours creating canvas needlework to give to family and friends. She was a caregiver for her grandchildren and other numerous children during her lifetime.
Her memory is left to be cherished by her three daughters, Barbara Cava and husband, Dale of Williamsburg, Brenda Egnot and husband, Jim of Newport News and Rebecca (Becky) Ethington and husband, Roy of Mathews; six grandchildren, Greg Egnot and wife, Kari, Jeff Egnot and wife, Sonia, Kathryn and Jennifer Cava, Shelby Lee and Noah Ethington; four great grandchildren, Kayla and Lindsey Egnot, Crue Egnot and Dominic Ethridge. She is also survived by several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and a host of very special loving nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 13, at Peninsula Funeral Home in Newport News. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, May 14, at Hilton Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Lynwood Wells. Interment will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Kimberly Schlesinger and staff at PCI, especially Darlynn Lyons, as well as Jane Bean and staff at the Riverside Hospice Agency of Newport News. The family also extends our gratitude and love to Wanda Mullins for the loving care she provided.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hilton Baptist Church, 101 Main St., Newport News, VA 23601 or the Peninsula Chapter of the American Cancer Society, 11835 Canon Blvd, Newport News, VA 23606, (800-227-2345).

I remember meeting Mrs. Alma at Riverside and she was such a sweet lady. She did not want to be a burden even when her family tried to reassure her that they loved her so much that they would do any and all things for her. She was a grateful and gracious lady whom I will not forget.
You all provided her such excellent care and showed the love you had for her. I feel so sure that she enjoyed each of her last months knowing that she would be cared for, loved and supported until her last day.
May Mrs. Alma's legacy and lov bring you comfort and guide you through your grief.
I am only a phone call away if you need assistance.
Be encouraged and blessed.

Please accept my deepest condolences in the passing of your mother, Alma. As I can honestly say that my memory of her and her family will remain as one of being very supportive and strong as the matriarch of the Firesheets family. Please keep in your memory all the love and kindness she showed. I'm sure that memory will be apparent to all that know the family. Tommy and Alma's family will always remain in my heart.
