Barbara COATS Obituary

HAMPTON - Barbara and her twin brother, Bruce were born in Chicago, Ill., on March 25, 1939, to Bernice and Dr. Samuel Bromberg. After graduating from the University of California at Berkeley, in 1961, she married George Coats, the son of Eleanor and Colonel Robert A. Coats. Barbara and George started their life together at Glasgow AFB in Montana. During their 49 years together they lived in Montana, California, Alabama, Texas, Arizona, Virginia and Germany.
They were blessed with a daughter, Linda; a son, Geoffrey; and a daughter-in-law, Karley Frankic.
In addition to being an outstanding mother and helpmate, Barbara excelled in residential real estate sales and mortgage banking in the Tidewater and Fairfax areas of Virginia. Perhaps, Barbara's greatest gift was her ability to listen and form logical and workable solutions to every challenge presented to her. She loved entertaining guests, meeting people, traveling, learning languages, and throwing pottery. She lit up every room with her beautiful smile and wit.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov, 20, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 250 Fox Hill Road. A social time will follow the service. She will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery. Prior to the service, friends are welcome to visit the family from 2 to 7 p.m. at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials for Barbara may be sent to Sentara CarePlex Hospice or the Peninsula Fine Arts Center. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

I was so sorry to hear this. Barbara was my real estate agent when I got stationed at Langley in Dec '84. She knew my parents and they contacted her for me. She was chasing me down at Langley before I even in-processed! Then she guided my young self (24 years old, 1st LT) in purchasing my first home. I still tell people on a regular basis how lucky I was to have her guiding me - I ended up with a home I could grow into and I'm still living in it today and loving the neighborhood! I married a few years later and my wife loves the home too. Please know she is in our thoughts and prayers.

Barbara and I worked together at Chicos a few years ago. From the moment I met Barbara, i liked her. We always used to tease Barbara about loving animal prints. If something came in that looked like her taste, we always told her that it had her name on it. Then, one day she put a hiatus on purchasing animal prints because she decided she had too many!!!! We laughed and laughed together about this! After she left Chicos, I would run into her almost everywhere I went!! I will miss her smiling face. I didn't now she was ill; I wish I had. My deepest sympathies to your family. She was quite a lady.

Dear George,Linda and Geoff, We are so sorry that Barbara's beautiful life here on earth has come to an end, but she is in a much better and beautiful place where she is no longer suffering. We remember Barbara as a person who was always smiling, always had a kind word for everyone and never said anything bad aboutnanyone. She had a beautiful spirit that will always remain in our memory of her. May God sustain you all in this time of grief and know that she is always with you, Love, Susan and Stewart DeHaven

Barbara and I were high school classmates. Until she and her husband attended a reunion lunch last year, I had not seen her in 50 years. I was so happy she was able to come to Illinois and will treasure the lovely conversation we had that day. When I learned she was ill, I wrote, not knowing how gravely ill she was. I am sorry she never got to read that letter. My heart goes out to her family. My prayers are with you. Your wife and mother was a lovely person.

I am terribly sorry to hear of your loss. God knows that losing a loved one can be overwhelming. King David wrote about our Creator, “Trust in him at all times, O people. Before him pour out your heart. God is a refuge for us.” Psalm 62:7, 8.
