Bessie AMBROSE Obituary

WICOMICO - Bessie Delton Ambrose, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at the age of 90.
She was born in Wicomico, Va., April 17, 1920, to the late Alonzo and Leo Croswell Ambrose. Bessie graduated from Achilles High School in 1939. She was a lifelong member of Providence Baptist Church, served as Sunday School teacher, choir member and counselor of the Young Women Auxiliary. She retired in 1970 after 39 years of service from Litton Printing Company formerly Newport News Business Forms and Sturgis Printing. Bessie loved good food and socializing, enjoyed being with her family and friends and had a wonderful smile that could light up a room. She was a devoted and wonderful sister and aunt, whose graciousness and wit informed and enriched us all. We were touched by her generosity and extraordinary spirit and we will be inspired by her memory forever.
Her parents; brother, Woodrow Ambrose; and five sisters, Bertha Gamache, Daisy Nuttall, Catherine Hogge, Haley Coates and Lolita Jenkins preceded her in death.
She is survived by her devoted sister, Joyce A. Hogge; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and special niece, Annette Gamache; cousins, including a special cousin, Gertrude Burks; and two very good friends, Brenda Heffington and Linda Templeman.
Funeral services officiated by the Rev. Dr. Richard Croxton, the Rev. W. Donald Ambrose and the Rev. Ray Goude Sr. will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Providence Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Providence Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
The family wishes to express special thanks to the staff of Walter Reed Convalescent Center and everyone who contributed their love and care to the life of this wonderful lady. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Ambrose family,

We are so sorry to hear of the passing of Aunt Bessie. She was a dear, kind, and friendly lady, always wanting to know how you were doing and we know she will be missed. We are so glad Tyler got to meet her last year. Everyday we would go see his grandmother, he would always stop in and say hello. She loved him to pieces as she did everyone she came in contact with. You could never leave before getting a, "let me kiss your neck, darling!"

Our love, sympathy, and prayers are with all of you.

Dearest Joyce and family.

I have such fond memories of Miss Bessie, especially when there were family gatherings with the Parkes family, Jenkins and Ambrose family. I know she is with her Lord and her wonderful family that have gone before.

May God comfort you in knowing this and he will keep you always.

Love - Linda Bland Goodman
