HAMPTON - Cecil Kelly Manning, age 76, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 19, 2010, surrounded by his loving family.
Cecil was a native of the Virginia Peninsula and had lived here all of his life. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of Monitor Lodge #197. He worked in the shipyard as an electrician/supervisor for 22 years, drove many miles across the country in his truck 'The Bounty Hunter' and had a passion for bluegrass music. Cecil owned and operated Suburban Removal and Transport Service. He, along with his jokes, stories and quick wit, will be greatly missed.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 55 years, Barbara S. Manning, four daughters, Janet Crumpler (David), Kathryn Edwards (Henry), Linda Bartgis (Mike), and Kelly Walter (Mike), all of Hampton; seven grandchildren, Angie (Ronny), Jessica (Shane), Josh, Caitlin, Chris, Emily, and Brittany; and two great-grandsons, Christian and Seth; and his favorite cat, 'Bandit.'
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 21, 2010, at W.J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A graveside service, with Masonic Rites, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2010, in Peninsula Memorial Park, with Pastor Arthur J. Rajanayakam officiating.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Bethany United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 1509 Todds Lane, Hampton, VA 23666.

Dad, I miss you so much already. I didn't know my heart could hurt this much. I cry and want you here for selfish reasons. I was not ready to let go. I know you are in a better place where you can move freely with no pain and for that, I am so happy for you. Time will heal my heart and the tears will eventually stop. I will always have my memories of you until we see each other again. I love you and may you now rest in peace. Until we meet again.... Kelly Walter "THE BABY".

I have known Ceci since 1991. He was great to talk with and just "be around." His stories of not only the shipyard but driving his truck could keep your interest for hours. Although I have not seen him for a few years, I continued to think aboiut him and his family. My thoughts and prayers continue to be with them.

My good friend Cecil has entered Heaven to be with our Heavenly father. I am going to miss Cecil very much, but one day I will see him again. I first met Cecil in the shipyard, he was my electrical supervisor. Cecil was a great supervisor and he had a sense of humor unmatched by anyone else. Since 1969, I have kept up with my friend, and I was proud to do so. He always thought of others and he loved his family very much. I recently went to ICU and visited with Cecil. I asked him if he had ever accepted Jesus Christ as his savior, and he knodded yes! That made my heart feel so good that knowing he was a child of God. He is now in his heavenly home with his great humor and smiling face. This world has been made better by having Cecil in it, and I am honored to have known him. God bless you Mrs Manning and all of the other family. My prayers are with you all!!
