Charles Reiordan Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Charles A. Reiordan, 83, died Sunday morning, Nov. 22, 2009, in the company of his wife of 62 years, Iona and his son, Bruce.
First and foremost Charles was the most kind, loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and true friend to all that knew him. Charles was an active member of Morrison United Methodist Church for 49 years and supported the church in multiple capacities throughout his membership. Charles was also an active member of the Masonic Lodge for almost 50 years. He was a Past Master of the Mariner Lodge # 215, Past Worthy Patron of Warwick Chapter # 43 O.E.S., and active member of Royal Arch Chapter # 80.
Charles entered the U.S. Navy in January 1944, and was honorably discharged on April 1947. He moved to Richmond, Va., where he met and married Iona Sprouse Reiordan in June 1947. Charles and Iona lived in Richmond until 1960, when they relocated to Newport News, where they have resided and made a home for the past 49 years. Charles retired for the Yorktown Navel Weapons Station in 1982, after 23 years of service.
He is survived by his loving wife, Iona Reiordan of Newport News; a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Vicky Reiordan of Satellite Beach, Fla.; grandson, Paul Reiordan of Safety Harbor, Fla.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Order of the Eastern Star service will be at 7 p.m., followed by visitation with the family until 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at Morrison United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Delia Parrish officiating. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park, with Masonic rites.

I am very sad to learn that Uncle Charles has apssed away. I have many childhood memories of when you all lived in Richmond and all the times we spent together. I will remember him fondly as lovely sweet man and know that is in a better place. Love,
