Charles WIGGS Obituary

HAMPTON - Charles William Wiggs Jr., 89, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 18, 2010, following a long illness. He suffered from leukemia and pneumonia.
A native of Princeton, N.C., he was employed as an assistant engineer at NASA retiring in 1979, after 31 years of service. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was married for 56 years to Ruby Whitley Wiggs, who passed away in 2001, and was the son of Lula Davis and Charles William Wiggs Sr. of Princeton, N.C. He was also preceded in death by his son, Charles William "Bill" Wiggs III.
A volunteer at Sarah Bonwell Hudgins for 30 years, he was a deacon and Sunday school teacher at Fox Hill Road Baptist Church. He loved being on the water, whether boating or fishing. He was a member of Monitor Lodge #197, AF & AM and a member of the Retired Men's Club of Virginia.
Survivors include a daughter, Janet Wiggs Sandler of Hampton; a sister, Louise Daughter of Princeton; a granddaughter, Heather Michelle Sandler, also of Hampton; and several nieces and nephews.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to The Arc of the Peninsula, 1 Singleton Drive, Hampton, VA 23666; or the Building Fund at Fox Hill Road Baptist Church, 335 Fox Hill Road, Hampton, VA 23669.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. tonight, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service beginning at 7 p.m., in the funeral home chapel, conducted by Pastor Thomas Larson and Dr. William R. May. Interment will take place in Princeton, N.C. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.
