Charlotte Perry Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Charlotte S. Perry went to spend eternity with her Heavenly Father and her husband and parents on Friday, Nov. 6, 2009.
She was born Dec. 1, 1923, in Abbeville, Ga. She was the daughter of the late Ellis M. and Eunice Sheffield.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. John E. Perry Sr.; and two brothers.
She is survived by her four children, John Jr. (Maria), Carlton (Dee), and Donna Beard (Jimmy) all of Newport News, and Daniel of Virginia Beach; 18 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Teddie Duck (Donald) of Suffolk; and many nieces and nephews and dear friends.
John and Charlotte spent almost 66 years together, raising their children and serving God in the ministry. Service in churches led them to Portsmouth, Va., Plymouth, N.C., Newport News, Alexandria, Va., and Newark, Del., until he retired in 1989 and they returned to their home in Newport News, where John continued to serve assisting in the local church and as Chaplain at Riverside Hospital until 2001. Charlotte spent her years raising her children and serving in the churches always by her husband's side.
Charlotte had an amazing, loving personality and it showed in everyone she came in contact with. Her loss will be felt in the community at Riverside Convalescent Center for a long time. Everyone loved her dearly.
The family wishes to say a big 'Thank You' to all of the caring nurses and aides that took such loving care of both of them as they spent their last years together at the Center. A special thanks to Shirley High, who was Charlotte's first nurse in 2005 and her last nurse as she slipped away and went home to Heaven. We love you, Shirley.
Visitation will be at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, with a funeral service immediately following at 12:30 p.m. at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home, with the Rev. Donald Swope officiating. Burial will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park.
Arrangements by W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Donna, Family & Friends,

My heart goes out to you at the loss of such a special woman. May your memories of your time with her here on earth ease the pain of her loss. You never get over the loss of your mother, but as time passes your memories will help bring a smile to your face and joy in your heart from all you shared together. You are in my thoughts and prayers today and always.
