David BARNWELL Obituary

HAMPTON - David A. Barnwell Sr. was born to the late William Barnwell Sr. and Lavinia Branton Barnwell on March 5, 1930, in Charleston, S.C. He claimed his Heavenly victory on Sunday, Aug. 22, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was a retired Federal Police Officer and a member of Union Wesley AME Zion Church in Washington, D.C., since 1955 and Greater Walters AME Zion Church in Newport News, Va., since 1992.
He was preceded in death by one sister; five brothers; one son-in-law; and two granddaughters.
He leaves to cherish in his memory his devoted and loving wife, Marie A. Barnwell; two sons, David A. Jr. (Paula) and Dinardo 'Dino' Barnwell; two daughters, Yettah A. Rogers and Davondra 'Kicky' Harper.
A viewing will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 30, at the funeral home, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., at Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Temple. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, at Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Temple, 3100 Butternut Drive, Hampton, VA. Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens. The Barnwell family is receiving services of comfort by the staff at Nickelson-Cummings Funeral Home, 4304 Victoria Blvd., Hampton. I send my heart felt condolences to Davondra and family. You guys are such a close, tight-knit crew, and I know that your hearts are so heavy right now. I also know that you all know Christ & the Word of God and in that that you will be ok. Take comfort in knowing that you will see him again.
