Deidre Becker Obituary
She pursued her love of books by earning a bachelor's degree from the University of the Witwatersrand and a graduate degree in Librarianship at the University of Cape Town. She worked as a librarian throughout her adult life, eventually retiring from the University of Texas Medical Branch Library, after 20 years of service.
She and her husband devoted their retired years to bird watching, gardening, Bible study and volunteer work in their local community.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Ian Leonard Becker.
Mrs. Becker is survived by her daughter, Katherine Goodwin and husband, John Goodwin of Oklahoma; son, David Becker and wife, Elizabeth; and three grandchildren, Sarah, John and Jacob, all of Williamsburg; brothers, Robert and John Nott of South Africa.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Sentara Hospice, Spring Arbor Assisted Living and Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church for their compassion, love and service during Deirdre's illness.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1677 Jamestown Rd., Williamsburg.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Deirdre's memory to Sentara Hospice of Williamsburg, 6015 Poplar Hall Drive, Suite 308, Norfolk, VA 23502-3819.

We share with you the loss of your Mother. We have enjoyed knowing her for the past few years she has been among us at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church. It has been a pleasure to be with her. Her smiling face and sunny disposition even in the midst of pain and suffering have been a blessing to us. She wil be missed.
