Douglas CARMODY Obituary

GLOUCESTER - Doug Carmody's body was put to rest on Nov. 26, 2010, but his sprit lives on to rejoice with his parents, John and Florence Carmody; and his brothers, Billy and Bobby, who preceded him to be with our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
Doug was an original member of the Merry Oaks Clan, and will be remembered lovingly as Doughy(our dough boy).
Doug's remaining family include his children, who he cherished, son, David and daughter, Elizabeth, both of Philadelphia; his brothers, John(Duke)of Maryland, and Matt and his wife, Joyce Carmody of Gloucester, Va. He will also be remembered by a host of lifelong friends, nieces and nephews.
Doug had a rare form of cancer and decided to donate his body, so he might help others, something he always did in life.
A celebration of life will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at the fire station, 3239 Providence Rd., Hayes, VA 23072. For inquires call Matt Carmody at 804-210-1139. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Carmody family: I know how very hard it is for you at this time, as I remember how very close and happy your family was years ago. May the peace and the grace of God be with you.

To the Carmody family: May God bless you during this time of loss. As we remember the many good experiences that Doug brought to this world, I have many personal memories of Doug living in Merry Oaks. Doug, like many in the neighborhood, was like an older brother always looking out for me. He understood that my home life was less than desireable and although I was a couple of years younger, he often let me tag along and treated me like a little brother. I will never forget those memories. As we attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel School together in the 1960s, the strong Christian faith was well rooted in us early on. I will always remember the Carmody family as strong Christians who, by example, helped me personally understand the importance of Christ in our lives. Doug will be truly missed by all of us who grew up in the Merry Oaks neighborhood. To Matt, and the rest of the Carmody family, God bless and know that Doug's memory lives on in each of us.
