Edna BALDASARE Obituary

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Edna Gibbs Baldasare, 88, died Wednesday, June 30, 2010.
Born in Hyde County, N.C., she received her RN degree from the Roanoke Rapids Hospital School of Nursing and did post-graduate work in public health at the Medical College of Virginia. She served her country honorably as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy, during World War II, at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Va. During her career, she held a variety of nursing positions in New York, Washington D.C., Georgia, and Virginia.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Paul Baldasare Sr.; and five siblings.
She is survived by three sons and their spouses, Tom and Elaine Baldasare of Chapel Hill, N.C., Paul Baldasare Jr. and Jane Wettach of Durham, N.C., and Jim and Lynn Baldasare of Williamsburg Va.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her sister, Lillian G. Lane of Kitty Hawk, N.C.
Edna's life will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010, at First Presbyterian Church, in Durham. A private interment of her ashes will be held at the Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Va.
