Elisabeth PETERS Obituary

HAMPTON - Mrs. Elisabeth Elli Peters entered this worldly life on April 26, 1936, to Hans and Elisabeth Knoll of Dormitz, Germany. She departed into eternal life on Monday, Dec. 14, 2009. Elisabeth was the oldest of five children.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Elisabeth Knoll; father, Hans Knoll; sister, Marga Knoll; and brother, Sigward Knoll.
She grew up in the Catholic Church and attended school in Dormitz, Germany. Elisabeth met the love of her life 53 years ago. She married Command Sgt. Maj. William Peters, U.S. Army (Ret.) on April 27, 1956. This union was blessed with two sons, Walter and Robert Peters.
After moving to the Hampton area, Elisabeth transferred her membership to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and remained a faithful member until her health began to fail.
Elisabeth was a devoted Army spouse in support of her husband's military endeavors. She spent many days on the Army's training ranges of Germany, to the planes of Kansas, supporting the troops with coffee and cookies. During Christmas she would organize, along with the other military wives, parties for the kids in the unit. As a member of the NCO Wives Club, at Ft. Riley, Kansas, she was their representative to the USO in Junction City, Kan. She assisted the USO in their activities in support of young soldiers and their families. Elisabeth would solicit gifts from the local businesses to support a monthly bingo for the USO. She knew the anxieties and responsibilities of managing the home front in the absence of one's spouse, particularly when they went off to war.
During her husband's TRADOC assignment, she encouraged him to invite the subordinate Commands CSMs to bring along their wives to his annual TRADOC's CSM conferences. While the CSMs were discussing training and other Army business, their wives were being briefed by the TRADOC and DA staffs on those issues pertinent to spouses.
Mrs. Peters leaves to cherish her memory a devoted husband, CSM William Peters; sons, Walter P. Peters of Overland Park, Kan., and Robert G. Peters, Atlanta of Ga.; granddaughters, Summer L. Peters of Manhattan, Kan., and Elizabeth A. Dunn of Atlanta, Ga.; grandson, Nichalas A. Rhoads-Peters of Kansas City, Mo.; two great-grandsons, Preston Peters and Julian A. Peters of Manhattan, Kan.; two brothers, Erwin Knoll and wife, Ottilie of Dormitz, Germany, and Konrad Knoll of Dormitz, Germany; and a host of loving sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Bill,

A wife of noble character is her husband's crown (Proverbs 12:4). Elisabeth was truly the crown jewel of your crown. We have few words that can comfort right now, but we are thankful for godly women like your bride, who carried the light for our Lord!
