HAMPTON - Elizabeth D. "Betty" Collie, 73, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Dec. 14, 2009 after a courageous fight with cancer.
Betty was a member of Ivy Memorial Baptist Church, and was very involved in many ministries including the WMU, teaching Sunday school and the family night suppers. She faithfully served the Lord through her church activities until her health began to fail. Many years ago Betty also worked in the business office of Montgomery Ward.
Survivors include her husband of 25 years, Dwight J. Collie; their children, Suzanne Cecil and her husband, Walter of Newport News, Vickie Crowe of Jasper, Ga., Lisa Davis and her husband, Tim of Newport News, Nancy Grounds and her husband, Rich of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Brad Collie and his wife, Tammi of Dixon, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Kelsey and Kyle Cecil, Casey and Caitllyn Davis, Nicole Draggoo, Joshua Rowland, Sierra Crowe, Serenity and Alex Collie; two great-grandchildren, Tristan and Rayna Draggoo; a brother, Ruhl S. "Sonny" Doup Jr. and his wife, Linda of Flagler Beach, Fla.; and a brother-in-law, Bernard Collie and his wife, Marie of Destin, Fla.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at Ivy Memorial Baptist Church. A homegoing service will immediately follow at 2 p.m., with the Rev. John Etcher officiating. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to thank Dr. Johnny Hyde, and the staff of Virginia Oncology, especially Charmaine and Mary, as well as Heartland Hospice staff, especially Heather, Mozelle, Martha, and Lois, for their compassion and care during these past several months. Our heartfelt thanks also go out to Charlotte and Van, for their continued loving care and dedication.

To Dwight and family,

So sorry for your loss. Betty was a dear and elegant lady. I will never forget how she helped me when I had a 95th birthday party at the church for my mother. She even made a beautiful decorative salad for all of us. She will be greatly missed at Ivy Memorial, as she was a wonderful example of Christian love and grace.

Dwight and family - I am so sorry to learn of your losing Betty - although we've lost touch thru the years since I worked at Langley I remember you and Betty as such very special people. My heart goes out to you all at this most difficult time.

The next time we see her she will be alive and well for I do believe the saved will know each other in heaven. It was my joy to be pastor to the family for a long time and I dearly love every member. I also know something of the way family, church, and professionals ministered.
It was only right for Dwight and Betty have ministered to so many.
Dwight remains one of my most admired friends, my brother, and I love him and pray for him often.
Love to all family members,
Pastor Fant
