Ernest Wallace Obituary

CHARLES CITY - On Nov. 8, 2009, God saw fit to dispatch one of His angels to come home for eternal rest. His home is no longer built by man's hands, but rather the mansion Christ has prepared for him.
Ernest Leon Wallace was born on July 23, 1946, the son of Mr. Charles H. Wallace Jr. and Mrs. Gertrude Bartlett Wallace of Williamsburg, Va.
At an early age he accepted Christ as his personal savior and joined Mt. Gilead Baptist Church of Williamsburg, Va. As an adult, Ernest joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Charles City, Va.
He received his formal education in the public school system of Williamsburg, Va., graduating from the Bruton Heights High School. Right after graduating high school, Ernest joined the United States Marine Corps and served our country faithfully until he completed his service.
In 1971, Ernest joined the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. For the next 37 years he devoted his time and meritorious service to the Foundation. He received awards, citations, and in 1996 he was the recipient of the 'Silver Bowl', representative of 25 years of dedicated service. In 2008, Ernest retired as an employee of the Williamsburg Foundation.
On May 30, 1985, Mr. Wallace was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Marion Graham of Charles City, Va.
Ernest was a very active family man, cherishing his wife, children, and especially those grandkids and great-grands! Apart for spending time with family and fond friends, he loved to play golf! You could catch him anytime playing round at his favorite spots, Deer Run, Green Course, and Gold Course Golf Clubs.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a devoted wife, Marion Wallace of Charles City, Va.; his sons, Rickey Jefferson, Wilbur Jefferson Jr. (Felicia), of Williamsburg, Michael Jefferson, Eric Jefferson (Helen), of Charles City; his daughters, Wanda Jefferson and Michelle Washington (Perry Sr.), of Williamsburg; his 14 grandchildren, two of whom he raised, Rickey Robinson and Kenisha Jefferson; his 14 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Gertrude L. Green (James), Eileen Sheppard (Robert), Margaret Wallace and Carolyn Wallace; his brothers, Fred Wallace (Audrey) and James A. Wallace (Carolyn); his aunts, Annette White and Ethel Bartlett; his nieces, nephews, cousins; and many other loving relatives and caring friends.
A funeral service will be held at noon Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, in Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 11600 Wilcox Neck Road, Charles City, with the Rev. George Magazine officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. Family and friends will assemble at 14231 Sandy Point Road by 11 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Wallace may be viewed from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
Professional services entrusted to the staff of Whiting's Funeral Home, 7005 Pocahontas Trail, Williamsburg, 757-229-3011. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Uncle Ernest:

I was shocked to learn that you had passed. I believe that it was a shock to all of your family. I believe that you are now at peace, free from all the cares of this world. I will miss you greatly, but I hope to see you again someday.

Let everyone know that we are okay (grandmothers, grandfathers, sisters, brother and other family members).

Take care, I miss you and I will love you forever.

Love your niece,
Yvonne

Uncle Ernest,

You are missed so very much. I remember back to the days when you would talk about the Apollo missions. Of course seeing you at CW when I worked there.

You are at peace now up there with both of my Grandmothers, Grandfathers and your siblings.

I know there is a golf course up there for you to play on to your hearts content.

Love you always,
Your neice Cheryl

It was with great sadness that I learned of Ernest's death. He will be missed by all who knew him. I worked around him for 22 years and knew of no one who was more willing to lend a helping hand to those who needed it. I'll miss you on the golf courses, Ernest, and my most heartfelt condolences to his wife, Marion. I didn't know any of his children, but if they are anything like their father they are all fine people. Colonial Williamsburg missed you from the minute you left them and now the rest of his many friends will carry his memory for all time.
