She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry A. and Sara Wasserman Morewitz; brothers, Louis, Herbert and Jacob Morewitz; sister, Celia Morewitz, all of Newport News; and husband, Sanford Hordes.

Frances was born in Newport News on March 24, 1918. Her parents, aunts and uncles helped to found Temple Rodef Shalom in Newport News. She graduated from Newport News High School in 1936, and afterward worked for the newly-created Social Security Administration in Baltimore, Md. Soon thereafter she moved to Washington, D.C., to work for the U.S. Department of Labor, where she met and married Sanford Hordes in 1942. While Sanford served in the Army during World War II, Frances returned to Newport News, where Donald was born in 1944. After the war the family moved again to Washington, where Stanley was born in 1949. Later they moved to Silver Spring, Md., and eventually to Cincinnati. Frances worked as a researcher at the Missionary Servants of the Holy Trinity, in Silver Spring, for 30 years. Frances was devoted to her family, doting on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, great-nieces and great-nephews. She will be missed by the many friends and loved ones whose lives she touched.
