Dr. Boddie, I looked you up today to see how you were...and I see you are in the best place, the place that we long for, the place of rest. You have made an immeasurable mark upon my life and my future generations. Many blessings to your family and may you worship at His footstool for ever and ever. I'll see you again.

I was saddened to hear, from Virginia Union University, of the death of Dr. Fred Boddie. I first heard Dr. Boddie preach, for an Easter Service, at Huntington High School in 1962 when I was in the tenth grade. His message was awesome and very relavent to high school students about the cross and death of Jesus Christ.
As a minister of word and sacrament, I came to be a close colleague of his and served the Shiloh Baptist Church of Petersburg, Va. where Dr. Boddie's father served. In that capacity, I was blessed to have him come and share his unique homoletical preaching skills at several summer revivals. I also considered him a close confident and friend. I also had the unique pleasure of working with his son, as the director of alumni affairs at Virginia Union University and became close to his family. His loss is as that of a brother in Christ and a close, dear colleague in ministry. I send sincere and heartfelt prayers of comfort and condolences to his beloved wife, Pat and his entire family. May the peace and comfort of the Christ, that I serve, be with them during this testing time and beyond. Remember always, "weeping may endure during the night, but joy comes in the morning."

To the entire Boodie family:
I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Rev. Boodie. He was such a great man. I like so many others have so many great memories of Rev. Boddie. If the walls of First Church could talk they would go on for days sharing all the wonderful memories. Rev. Boddie always was one to make people feel that they were somebody. I remember when he begun saying to the vistors: "Welcome to the First Church of Newport News (Baptist) were everybody is somebody." When I fisrt came to First Church as an eleven year old child I was amazed when I first saw Rev. Boddie. He was so young. I had never seen a young preacher before. I thought that all preachers were old men. Rev. Boddie always seemed to have time for myslef and the Askew family whenever the need occured. It meant so much to me when he atteneded my mother's homegoing service despite he declining health. He even sang the Lord's Prayer for us, which she always loved to hear. No one can sing that song like good old Doc. I believe that my foundest memory of Rev. Boddie was at my uncle's homegoing service. I was given the task of delivering the prayer of comfort. After the service Rev. Boddie came to me and whispered in my ear "Girl you can really pray". His words were so pleasing to me, because he had such an important role in my spiritual development. Hearing these words from my spiritual father made me feel that he was pleased with my development.
Mrs. Boddie, Freddie, Timmy, and Pattie I know this is a difficult time in your lives, but my prayers and love are with you all. Remember that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Rev. Boddie has finished the road that God laid before him and now we must do the same. Rev. Boddie is now in the arms of his heavenly father. I pray that knowing how much not only Rev. Boddie was loved but your family as well will serve as a source of comfort to you all. Always share the memories with each other for this will keep him alive in your hearts. My God continue to comfort and bless you all.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Let not your hearts be heavy because we know where Fred,Jr is today. I've heard the stories of his childhood told by my mother( Yvonne Waddy-Harris) so many times as they played in their Grandparents' yard. I loved him and told him so whenever he came to visit in Baltimore or when we went to Va. for a family gathering. Boddie family, knowing that he has made it to the other side takes the sting out of death. Glory to God for having him in our lives, I know to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Until we meet again Fred,Jr.

To Mrs Boddie, Fred, Patty, Tim
Mother and I were sad to hear of the Pastor Boddie's illness and his passing. Yet the Lord has welcomed him home. For precious in His sight is the death of one He loves. Pastor Boddie has run His race and now he can rest forever in the presence of the Lord. Mother and I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER WHEN HE CAME TO THE HOSPITAL TO SEE MY FATHER (MR. IMES) Dad went home to be with the Lord not long after his visit. Pastor Boddie always made you feel at home, and welcomed.
We both know you all will miss him. Fred, Tim, and Patti continue to live out his legacy and instill the values he held dear to the grandchildren. If you all stay the course and follow Jesus until death or the catching up of the Body of Christ in the Rapture you all will see him again soon.
Mrs. Boddie, we know your best friend now gone will always be in your heart! Although now seperated you too will see him soon, because this world as we know it will soon pass away and those in Christ will be joined to be with Him forever. God Bless all of you and your extended family as well! If ever you would like to contact us call 804-319-6340. If we had your number we would call you. Would love to hear from you! God Bless!

All Boddie's and the branches of there of!!! ...Aunt Pat, Patti, Tee, & Fred!!
Why? Is everybody partying and having a good time? Shouldn't they be crying and mourning the beloved??? My Uncle taught us that whether it was or even not as to be! It was not as it seems!!
It is a celebration of going home...He's not gone...just asleep!! Even when we visited cementary together Uncle would asks us a simple question ...how many out there are dead (in the cementary)?? We were puzzled but he would 'chuckle' and 'smile' but always endeared the perfect answer! The Lord has gone to prepare a place for you and if it were not so "I" would've not told you so!!!
He is gone but not forgotten...he has left but he's coming back!! I will truly miss a great mentor in life! A drum major of the rights and choices for all!! A soldier in the Army of the Lord!!! An Uncle who has meant so much not only to his family but even his extended family! He always served to change the lives of other! He loved with all his heart, mind, body and soul! One thing I do know Uncle Fred Loved Jesus and he's more then likely walking with the fruit of the Spirit right now!! He's stepping mighty and His head is lifted high and He is lifting up the name ...the sweetest name I know Jesus! Jesus! Jesus! thank you Uncle Fred for not only your love but also your teaching, preaching and proclaiming/standing & showing us the gospel of life/eternity!!!

Our Beloved Fred, Jr, we so lovingly called him, will be sorely missed. I will always remember the time of his visits in Baltimore, especially at Momma's (Ophelia Boddie-Waddy), Oh, it was such a happy and joyful time. We would leap with joy as soon as he would hit the block, just as it was with his Dad, Fred Boddie, Sr. I told Fred, jr at his retirement celebration, how he is and always will be so loved. Now, the beloved man of God, is reaping the promise, an eternal life with the God who loves him more. Rest in peace my cousin. And, What a day of rejoicing it will be, when we all get together in heaven to live etenally with our God and Saviour forever more.

It is with great sadness that these words of comfort are submitted to you. However, I do know that Dr. Boddie is now present with the Lord and rewarded for a "Work Well Done." Doc has been such a powerful force in our lives that even death can but shade the moment. The "Imago Dei" of Fred J. Boddie, Jr. has evolved and is no longer bound by the limitations of "This hulk of human protoplasm soon to be snuff from our existence".
Freddie, Patty, and Tim, walk proud and know that your father has been a father to many and have lived a life which challenges each of you to excellence. I know he was proud of each you.

From my childhood to my ministry Doc was always there. There have been few, if any greater privileges in my life than to have him as a Father in the Ministry, to have been trained and mentored by him and to have served God and God's people with him. To say I will miss him is an understatement. May the Comforter bring swiftly to your hearts peace and strength. The Wyckoff family loves you all.

"Someone Near to Me Has Died"
Eternal Spirit, someone very near and dear to me has passed on into the larger life and I stand bewildered, alone, and sadly stricken. .
In my grief I bring thee my words of gratitude for all the rich gifts that the departed one has brought to my life
The bond of mutual confidence and understanding
The gift of fellowship in shared tasks and unrealized ambitions
The joy that come when one can be sure that someone knows him to the depths and trusts him completely.
Grant me now, my Lord, the courage to carry on in the spirit the one departed has bestowed upon my life.
Save me from weak complaint and futile regrets.
Enable me to build well upon the legacy of gracious memories remaining to me.
Give me the power to carry to fulfillment the joint undertakings of our hearts.
Empower me to think and act and grow in harmony with the purposes and spirit which my departed loved one would approve and inspire. Thus, may I be true to the memory of the one who has passed on.
Amen
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor heights, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. .
