Gary BARNES Obituary
He was born in Salisbury, N.C., and had been a Peninsula resident for 46 years. He was a member of Cornerstone Fellowship Church in Mathews.
Survivors include his mother, Catherine L. Barnes of Newport News; one brother, Michael L. Barnes and his wife, Shirley, of Gloucester; one niece, Michelle West of Gloucester; and one grand-niece, Kristin West of Gloucester.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ervin L. Barnes.
A visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 22, at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 23, in Peninsula Memorial Park with Pastor Garry Ross officiating.

Gary, God's peace be with you. I, too, grew up in the Newmarket neighborhood and mom is still there( 72nd st). We attended the same schools. My sincere sympathy to your family. Rest in peace.

It is with great saddness to hear of Gary's passing. He was a ton of fun, smiling all the time, and enjoying life. He was loved by many. My deepest sympathy to his family.

Gary lived two blocks over from me in New Market Village, attended elementary and high school together, and if my memory serves me right, he was called "Butch". Way too young Gary, way too young. May you rest in peace and your family know peace.

I remember Gary from High School. I grew up in Newmarket ... just down the street from Gary. My thoughts and prayers are with Gary's family and friends. He will be missed.
