George McLAUGHLIN Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - George Bennett (Ben) McLaughlin of Williamsburg, Va., passed away Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, at the age of 87.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the memorial service at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, 215 Richmond Rd., Williamsburg, where he was a member for 16 years, on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at 1 p.m.
Born in Victoria, Va., to George W. and Bertha McLaughlin, he was raised there with his sisters; Lois, Alise, Edna, and brother, Linwood.
Mr. McLaughlin was a graduate of The College of William and Mary, class of 1947, and received his MBA degree from New York University.
He was an active duty Army Aviation Officer for three years during WW II.
Mr. McLaughlin held executive positions at Chase Manhattan Bank, Kings Lafayette Trust and Merchants Bank, and was an adjunct professor at Pace University for 30 years, before retiring to Fords Colony and Windsor Meade in Williamsburg, Va.
He enjoyed weekend yard work, spending time with his friends and family, reading history, writing poetry, story telling and traveling.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Dorothy Ann Dettmer; his sons, Craig, Scott and his wife, Yvette; and four grandchildren, Alison, Shelby, Evan and Trevor.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Williamsburg Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 215 Richmond Road, Williamsburg, VA 23185; or The College of William and Mary, School of Business, P.O. Box 1693, Williamsburg, VA 23187.
