Greta JEFFRIES Obituary
She was a registered nurse, and a member of the Medical Society of Virginia Peer Review Board, until her illness forced her retirement. Mrs. Jeffries was a longtime active member of St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert J. and Edna Marie Saunders; two brothers, Albert J. Saunders Jr., and Roger Saunders Sr.; and one grandchild, Kyle Williams.
Survivors include her loving husband, Everet Jeffries of Newport News; son, Guy B. Williams; two daughters, Valerie M. Thoennes (Craig) of Milwaukee, Wis., and Gayla L. Powell of Newport News; grandchildren, Jeffrey D. (Alixaundria), Gabriella L., and Jasmine T. Powell, Leigha and Cameron Williams; two great-grandchildren, Jaidyn A. and Justice C. Powell; two brothers; Dr. Meredith R. Saunders Sr. of Des Moines, Iowa, and Phillip T. Saunders (Cherry) of Las Vegas, Nev.; and a host of family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Vincent's Back Door Feeding Ministry, which Greta was a longtime volunteer.
A Memorial Liturgy, officiated by Monsignor Walter Barrett, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2012, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 230 33rd Street, Newport News. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.
