HAMPTON - Hatchel Pate Adams III, "Trey" departed this earthly life on Friday, Dec. 11, 2009.
Trey was born Nov. 6, 1973, to Hatchel P. Adams Jr. and Pamela W. Adams. He was a native of Hampton, Va., and grew up in St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church where he was an Acolyte, a member of the Episcopal Youth Council, Handbell Choir, and Boy Scouts of America. At a young age he accepted Christ as his personal savior and was baptized and confirmed.
Trey had a charismatic personality, excelled in academics and had a gift for music. He received his elementary, junior high, and high school education in the Hampton City Schools Gifted and Talented Program during which time he received numerous awards and recognitions. Trey was a 1991 honors graduate of Kecoughtan High School and the recipient of an academic scholarship to Morehouse Colllege graduating Cum Laude in 1996 with a BA in Marketing. While at Moorehouse, Trey interned at several record label companies with subsequent hire after graduation at Mercury Records/Polygram and Island Music Group. Upon returning to Virginia, Trey was employed by Clear Channel Radio (103 JAMZ) as a Marketing and Sales Consultant and IDEARC Media/ Verizon Yellow Pages as a Business Consultant.
Trey was a loving son, devoted brother, and loyal friend who cherished his family. His passing leaves a tremendous void in their lives. He is survived by his loving parents; his sister, Lisa Adams; and a host of relatives and friends.

It has been said that appreciation is a wonderful thing, because it makes what is excellent in others become a part of us all. As I reflect on Trey’s life and his passing, it is easy for me to appreciate having known this young man. Trey was talented, gifted, and determined to be a decent and honest man. In his early years, he was one of about a dozen boys at St. Cyprian’s Church who took seriously an oath, to do his duty to God and Country; even though being a Boy Scout was not necessarily the hippest thing to be. Trey dedicated his valuable time to developing life skills by being an honor student, practicing and playing his sax and enjoying outdoor life, especially wilderness camping. As he grew into manhood, his dedication to excellence was reflected in his work. If you gave Trey a laundry list, he could set it to music. He knew that music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. Trey tried to make a better world with what he had and to make himself better too. But, as we all know that in this life, all of our endeavors are never achieved. I am blessed to have known Trey.
