Herman GREEN Obituary
He was a 1969 graduate of Huntington High School. "BIG MAN" served in the USAF during the 1970's. "BIG MAN" was a comedian at heart and loved to make everyone laugh. He was well loved by his family, friends and community.
Herman was preceded in death by his father, Herman N. Green Sr.; and mother, Catherine Green.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Minister Brenda Eley Green; children, Injena Mary-Catherine of the home; Sheree Green and Herman Green III, of Newport News, Va., and Zachary Dortch (Hope) of Oklahoma City, Okla.; three grandchildren, Zachary Dortch Jr., Lindsey Dortch of Oklahoma City; Qua-Shae Henderson of Newport News; four brothers, Oliver Green (Carmen), Rodney and Thomas Green, all of Newport News, ; Anthony Green of Hampton, Va.; four sisters, Sarah Addison Walker (Nathaniel) of Orlando, Fla., Jeanette Brown (Joseph), Felicia Farmer (Marion), Tamie Green, all of Hampton; one aunt, Frances Holmes of Boston, Mass.; mother-in-law, Dr. Mary B. Eley of Capitol Heights, Md.; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Funeral Service will be held 1 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at Gates of Heaven CLGI, 1015 E. Little Back River Road, Hampton. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home and two hours prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Arrangements are entrusted to O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home. Thank you to all for your thoughts and prayes during this time of our lost. Herman was my heart and I will truely miss his smile and the joy he brought to my life. Knowing that we where blessed with our daughter Injena is a comfort during this time, she is a minture version of Herman. I will forever take his love with me and I will never forget the joy and the honor of being his friend and his wife. Herman I love you and one day we will see each other in that glorious place called HEAVEN

We were saddened to learn of Big Man's passing. He was such a legend at Huntington High. He had a strong presence on and off the field. He will be remembered as a the Big Man with the big heart.
We know there are no words that will ease your pysical and emotional pain. However, we want you all to know how special Big Man was and respected by his peers.

My condolences are hereby extended to the family of Herman "Big Man" Green. Like so many others, I too remember Big Man from his glory years at Huntington High School. Big Man truly had a big heart and his presence will certainly be missed. Take comfort in knowing that your loved one is safe at home with the Master. To The Family of Herman "Big Man" Green:
In "Big Man", you know you lost a loving father, brother, uncle, husband, and cousin. You also know Huntington High School lost a signicant contributor to its football, basketball, and baseball legacy. Additionally, you should know I lost not only a former football and basketball teammate, but also a friend.
Because of our friendship, I extend my deepest sympathies and prayers to "Big Man's" family during these difficult times, and hope the pain from his unexpected departure is soothe by the love and joy he gave to others.

I have known (Big) since 1984 when we met on the softball field in Newport News. We became great friends. I also thought of (Big) as a older brother.
