Ira JOHNSON Obituary

GLOUCESTER - Deacon Ira Johnson Jr., a lifelong resident of Gloucester, departed this life on Friday, Jan. 1, 2010, at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital.
He was born July 14, 1937, to the late Ira and Hattie B. Johnson. He was a 1957 graduate of T.C. Walker School. He was a member of Zion Poplars Baptist Church where served diligently as a Deacon.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys M. Johnson; son, Ira Johnson III; daughters, Darlene Thornton and the Rev. Angela Johnson; grandchildren, Christopher Johnson and Candace Johnson; all of Gloucester; great-granddaughter, Sheloir Johnson of Mathews, Va.; brothers, Russell Johnson of Columbus, Ga., and Bennie Johnson of Hampton, Va.; and a
host of other relatives and friends.
Deacon Johnson may be viewed on Thursday, Jan. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Howard Funeral Home and from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Friday.
A service of Celebration will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, in Zion Poplars Baptist Church, 7000 T. C. Walker Road, Gloucester with the Rev. Elton Pryor officiating. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

I will miss Ira more than you know.He was just like my dad in many ways.We had the best of times fishing,hunting,working & just sitting around telling jokes back & forth.I know he was a great man of God as well.Hang in there & we all remember all the great memories we had together.God Bless!!!
