Iris DILLION Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Iris Lovaine (Thomas) Dillon passed away Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010, at Riverside Hospital.
Iris was born Sept. 15, in England to Alfred and Gladys Stephens. She was in the Royal British Airforce. She loved the military. She worked for Fort Eustis, Fort Monroe, and also at Dixie Hospital as a E.K.G Technician for many years. She retired from working at Langley Air Force in 1999. She never stopped giving. She continued to work, she did volunteer work at the senior volunteer program. Everyday she enjoyed herself at the Senior Citizen Center on Kecoughtan Rd. in Hampton. She also attended Bible Study at West Hampton Baptist Church. She never missed a day going to McDonald's on Aberdeen Rd.
Everybody loved her. She never said no when someone needed her for anything. She was always there. She will be missed by many.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Gladys Stephens; her husband, Joseph Dillon; her sister, Ruth Stephens; and grandson, Derick D. Williams.
Iris leaves to cherish in her loving memory, her brother, Eddie Stephens (Jean); her sisters, Grace, Pam and Millie, all who live in England; her son, Shirley Roy Thomas Jr. (Tracy) of Killeen, Texas; her daughter, Juanita L. (Thomas) Gainey of Newport News, Va.; six grandchildren, James Roy Thomas, TaVette Mims of Germany, David D. Williams, Erica (Gainey) Peterson, Tracie Thomas, Kim Thomas and Keirra Willliams; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and many loved ones.
We are deeply saddened by the loss of our Mother and our Nanny. Our hearts are filled with praise to God for the unconditional love she gave to us and many others.

Juanita,
May God give you strength and peace as you travel this pathway of loss that becomes brighter by beautiful memories of your Mother. To the family. Ms Dillon was a valuable member of the Hampton Triad. She was always on hand to contribute ideas and volunteer for programs and events to assist senior citizens. Her smile would light up a room and her wit would brighten any dreary day. You cannot imagine how much she will be missed from all of us who worked and fellowshipped with her. Ms Dillon was a friend and it was a true pleasure to know her.
