Jackie MADDOX Obituary
Jackie was a lifelong Peninsula resident and graduated from Newport News High School. Mr. Maddox retired from Newport News Ship Building and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, American Legion Post 368, and the VFW. He enjoyed playing drums for over 75 years with many local Jazz/Swing Bands in the area. Mr. Maddox proudly served during WWII in the south Pacific, first with the U.S. Naval Reserves 6th Division, and then with the 3539th Army Air Corp.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy, of 59 years; two sons, John Allison Maddox and his wife, Patricia of Williamsburg, Lawrence Neil Maddox and his wife, Cynthia of Gloucester; a daughter, Patricia Vick of Williamsburg; four grandchildren, Megan Maddox, Mallory Maddox, William Vick Jr., and Chloe Vick.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at Peninsula Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at Amory Funeral Home, Grafton View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Words cannot even begin to say what I am feeling now.
Although I had not seen Uncle Jackie for many years I thought of him often. His smile, sense of humor, and laughter will be with me the rest of my days. His memory is one I'll treasure forever.

I am terribly sorry to hear of your loss. Losing a grandmother, aunt, and mother-in-law can be overwhelming. Therefore, how comforting it is to know that God is there for us. And at Psalms chapter eighty-nine verse twenty-six it tells us that God is our Father and the Rock of our salvation.

Dear Mrs. Maddox,
You probably won't remember me, but I'll never forget yall! Mr. Maddox was one of my favorite patients ever at RRMC and I worked there for 35 years before retiring last year.
I've often thought of him thru the years and am so sorry for yall's loss. He was such a sweet, considerate person. You're in my thoughts and prayers.

I was one of Jacks supervisors at OBRP, He was a great employee and a very good man. He and I never had any unkind words and we both loved Buddy Rich. My prayers to the family.

Jackie loved family, friends, and his
passion of music playing Drums. He was a devoted member of our orchestra for over 25 years and my team mate in the rythm section. His drive and determination was the soul and heart beat of the Sound of Swing! We will all miss his compassion, smile, musical talent, and team spirit he generously gave to us all. Move over Sonny Payne & Gene Krupa, heaven needed a stronger beat.
