James KING Obituary

ACHILLES - James David King, 67, died Dec. 5, 2009 at Sentara Williamsburg Hospital.
Proud of his heritage, he was born in the "home place" and raised in Severn. Having carried the family tradition of a commercial waterman, his love for the water was paramount in his life. David loved weekly cookouts during the summer and his profession became Taste Tester and he always said "save room for dessert," which was his grandmothers recipe for homemade ice cream.
Happy memories with family conversations around the dining room table, good friends and great food, will always bring a smile but will be sadly missed.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Ann King; parents, James Woodrow and Mildred King; as well as a brother, Linwood Franklin King.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ellen Haywood and husband, Earl Jr.; nephew, P. Scott King and Christina; great-niece, Brianna King; great-nephew, Matthew King; and cousin, Betty B. Brown.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at Gloucester Point Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
In David's memory, memorial contributions may be made to Gloucester Mathews Humane Society, P.O. Box 385, Gloucester, VA 23061. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Mary Ellen, sorry to hear about your Daddy. Lots of good memories of you, your Mama, Linwood, Brenda, Scott and more having cookouts and enjoying chocolate eclair cake. To this day I think of him whenever I make one. God bless.

Mary Ellen,
I'm so sorry to her about your Dad's passing. Sheila & I were just saying it's been a long time since we have gotten together, maybe we can make that happen soon. Our thoughts and prayers are with you now & always. May your heart be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate your Dad's life - a life well lived.

Mary Ellen,

My thoughts and prayers are with you. Though I had not seen David in quite a while, I will always have the memories and laughs we all shared sitting around the supper table evenings after school. Your Daddy was always a kind and giving person and we will all miss him. We will all be better for knowing him.
