James COOKE Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - James Edward Cooke, 86, passed away at his home on Monday, Nov. 29, 2010.
Mr. Cooke was born in Hornsbyville, Va., and was a lifelong resident of York County. He was an Army veteran of World War II and retired from Civil Service at Fort Eustis in 1983, after 40 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked for Northrop Grumman at Fort Eustis for nine years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Grafton Baptist Church Harris Grove and served as a Deacon.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Malicia Garner Cooke; and a son, James A. Cooke Sr.
He is survived by his daughters, Marilyn Moore and her husband, Wayne of Williamsburg, and Lois M. Garner of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a sister, Alice Washington of Yorktown; daughter-in-law, Calandra Cooke of Yorktown; and two grandchildren, James Cooke Jr. and Jewel Cooke.
A funeral service will be held at noon Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at Grafton Baptist Church Harris Grove, 1301 Old York Hampton Highway, by the Rev. Dr. George R. Gholson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight, Dec. 3, at Amory Funeral Home.
