James JACKSON Obituary

HAMPTON - Mr. James "Jack" or "JJ" Jackson Sr. entered into eternal rest on Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010.
Mr. Jackson was born June 7, 1924, in El Dorado, Ark., but has been a longtime Hampton resident.
He is preceded in death by his parents, the late Mrs. LouElla Jackson, mother; Mr. J.C. Jackson, father; and Mrs. Hattie Jackson, stepmother.
He made Hampton his home following an enlistment in the Army as a longshoreman in 1943 where he participated in WWII in the Pacific Theater until 1945 and completed his military career in the United States Air Force as a cook in 1964. He later retired as the Master Chef at both the Fort Monroe Officer's Club and the Aberdeen Barn in Hampton, Va.
Affectionately known as "Jack" or "JJ", he was an individual who enjoyed life, loved his family, cooking, jazz music, and driving cars, the majority of which were Cadillacs. He was also a long standing member of the Retired Armed Forces Club in Hampton, Va. He also accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and occasionally attended services at New Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Jackson leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 41 years, Mrs. Joan Jackson of Hampton, Va.; two beloved children, Jacqueline M. Courtney of Hampton, Va., and James Jackson Jr. of Hampton, Va.; and three grandchildren, all of Hampton, Va., Anthony Jay Courtney II, Aaron Joseph Courtney, and Amani Janae Courtney, whom he affectionately called 'Lu-Lu', after his mother LouElla, all of Hampton, Va. He also left a host of dear friends.
Mr. Jackson's parting view will be Sept. 20, 2010, from noon to 6 p.m. and his homegoing service will be held on Sept. 21, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Ronald C. Perkins Funeral Home Chapel, 251 W. Queen Street, Hampton, Va., followed by interment with full military honors at Hampton Veteran's Memorial Gardens in Hampton, Va.
Floral tributes will be received at the funeral home. Cards and other sentiments can be forwarded to 21 Sacramento Dr. Apt, 13A, Hampton, VA 23666.
Arrangements by Ronald C. Perkins Funeral Home, Ronald C. Perkins Jr., funeral director. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Ms. Joan and family,
Words can not express the sympathy my father John C. Butler has, as well as our entire family during this difficult time. Mr. J.J. was dad's best friend and we all will miss him. If Dad were able, he would be there but I know that you understand. Please know that you all are in our hearts and prayers.
