James Ord Obituary

HAMPTON - James Knight Ord, 78, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007. A native of Barberton, Ohio, he had been a Hampton resident since 1958. Mr. Ord proudly served in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant in 1981 after 32 years of service during both the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict. During his years of service, Mr. Ord was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart and the Air Medal. Upon retiring from the Air Force, he worked for 10 years before again retiring from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of the Army and Navy Lodge #306 AF & AM, and was a member of the Scottish and York Rite Masons, and also was a Shriner. Preceded in death by his wife, Eileen M. Ord, survivors include his son, James K. Ord II and his wife, Arleen, of Hampton; his daughter, Cheryl Lynn Turk of Hampton; his stepmother, Mary Ord of Akron, Ohio; two brothers, Duane Townsend and his wife, Peggy, of Fremont, Calif., and Corliss Ord of Akron, Ohio; his sister, Mary Lou Broadhurst of San Bernardino, Calif.; his sister-in-law, Sandra Ratta of Hampton, and brother-in-law, Edward Davanzo of Hollywood, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Neil A. Turk, Joseph A. Turk, Angela E. Turk, Bradford K. Kerwin Jr., James K. Ord III, Jennifer R. Ord and Joyce A. Ord; and two great-granddaughters, Angelique Ord and Priscilla Turk. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, at Parklawn Memorial Park with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, downtown Hampton.
