Janice LEVY Obituary

COCOA BEACH, FLA. - Janice P. Levy, 71, passed away Sunday, May 30, 2010, after a courageous fight with cancer.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Phillip M. Levy, MD; her daughters and their spouses, Rochelle Cooper and Eric, Eileen Wood and David; and six grandchildren, David II, James, Samuel, Natalie, Evan and Ellie.
Jan touched the hearts and lives of all those she came in contact with. Jan was born in Washington, D.C. She obtained a bachelors degree in Business Administration from the University of Michigan. After her marriage, she eventually settled with her family in Newport News later relocating to Cocoa Beach, Fla.
For 15 years Jan worked in her husband's office in Newport News. She had a strong sense of community and actively participated in Women's American ORT, Brandeis Study Groups, Council of Jewish Women and was a life member of Hadassah, As a member of Rodef Sholom Temple, she volunteered for numerous projects and affairs and spent many years working in the Temple library. As an active supporter of the N.N. Lions Club, she participated in many fundraising projects and medical screening fairs. Every year she enjoyed traveling with the Lions Club to help deliver volunteer medical care to the needy in the Appalachian Mountains. For two years Jan devoted many hours to help settle Russian immigrants who fled anti-semitism in Russia; they all remain her friends to this day.
Multi-talented, Jan excelled at any endeavor she undertook. Jan was a second mother to many who found her a willing source of information, advice and support. She always enjoyed entertaining in her home where she was always the perfect hostess. Above all she cherished her relationships with her daughters and their families, giving them limitless loving support. Her grandchildren were especially dear to her and close to her heart.
Wherever she was present, she radiated positive energy that enveloped and uplifted all. She leaves many wonderful memories for both family and friends.
Services will be held at Rodef Sholom 'Temple at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 3, 2010, followed by burial at the Jewish Cemetery of the Virginia Peninsula.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your favorite charity in Jan's name.
