Jerry Ward Obituary

POQUOSON - Jerry Ellsworth Ward, 73, a native of Fairfield, N.C., and resident of the Peninsula for more than 60 years, passed away Friday, Nov. 6, 2009.
Jerry was a graduate of Windsor High School. He served in the United States Air Force, and retired after 38 years from Newport News Shipbuilding. After retiring, Jerry found enjoyment working for Hall Acura of Newport News. Jerry had four passions in his life: his beloved wife, Judy, his family, his music, and finally his love of automobiles.
Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy Kitchen Ward; parents, Lester E. and Sara E. Ward; stepfather, Richard Cooper; and brother, Murray Ward.
He is survived by four children, Jerry E. "Jay" Ward Jr. and wife, MaryRose, Robert W. Kitchen and wife, Lisa, Shari Kitchen Rucker and husband, Rick, and Rodney V. Kitchen; three grandchildren, Marinda Kitchen, Jerry E. "Trey" Ward III, and Amber Bowen; stepmother, Edna Cooper; sister-in-law, Katherine Ward; two nieces, Mary Charles Pawlikowski and husband, Rick, and Betsy Ward; and extended family which he dearly loved.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, and at other times at 132 Villa Drive, Poquoson. A celebration of life service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, in the funeral home chapel by Pastor John Paul Basham. Burial will follow at Veterans Memorial Gardens, Hampton with military honors.

mr jerry was one of the nicest and most genuine people i have ever met. he reminded me a lot of my own grandfather. he always had a tidbit of advice to help you out in whatever situation you were in. he always had a joke to make the room laugh. i worked with him at hall acura and also when he worked for advantage. he was always willing to help out and was someone you could always count on. the world lost a good one with the passing of mr jerry...

dear family of jerry, my heart and prayers go out to all of you in the loss of a great person. i had known jerry from his work days at advantage auto stores and hall acura. he was always a person that if you ever saw him he would get up and come over to shake your hand. i had many great conversations with him and was going to contact him this week. i will always remember his kindness to me and friendship. every one should have known jerry to see how such a fine person he was. you will be in my thoughts during this time.
