John Parker Obituary

WHITE STONE - John H. Parker, Jr., 73, of White Stone, passed away on Nov. 5, 2009.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret T. Parker; and his parents, John and Sadie Parker.
John served in the Coast Guard for two years and was a member of Northside Christian Church in Yorktown for more than 40 years. He retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after years of service as a shipfitter. He enjoyed travel and boating.
Surviving are his second wife of 24 years, Joan A. Parker; a daughter, Catherine Parker; stepdaughters, Melanie Abbott and Ginger Powell and husband, Wayne; grandchildren, Rick Pittman, Andy Powell and wife, Sarah, Stacey Akers and husband, Eddy; great-grandson, Owen Powell.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, at the Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock. Interment will be in White Stone United Methodist Church Cemetery, White Stone. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at the funeral home.

I was stationed with John in 1959 in Norfolk, Va. I am so sorry to see the notice of his death.
