John Whitmire Obituary
John was a native of Independence, Mo., and was a Peninsula resident since 1956. He graduated from York High School in 1970, and was a member of the band, drama club, speech club, and The 4H club. He was a 1973 graduate of James Madison University. He retired from Colonial Williamsburg after 27 years in the Food Service Division.
John was preceded in death by his father, William Whitmire; and his step-father, Lt. Col. Homer Frailey.
He is survived by his mother, Patricia Frailey of Yorktown; a brother, Steven Whitmire and his wife Anita of Yorktown; a sister, Jane Gilliam of Richmond; two nieces, Katie Whitmire and Brittany Gilliam; and three nephews, Jeff Whitmire, Aaron Whitmire and Britt Gilliam.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, in the chapel of Amory Funeral Home, Grafton. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

john and i were friends when he lived in edgehill and we graduated high school together. he was a good friend in his own quiet way. we got to meet and speak a few times since. i send prayers to his family.
