John SETCHEL Obituary

HAMPTON - On July 18, 2010, the Lord opened heaven's gates to receive his newest angel, John Setchel, where he was joyfully reunited with his wife, Ramona; his baby son, Michael Anthony; and his brothers and sisters. John Setchel passed away in his home with his loving family by his side.
He was a compassionate, gentle man who dearly loved his family, his cats, and life in general. He was born on Jan. 30, 1928, in Praco, Ala. He had a distinguished career with the Air Force for 23 years and remained fiercely devoted to his country throughout his lifetime. After retirement, he was employed at Howmet. He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, the American Legion, and the Masonic Lodge.
John leaves to cherish his memory his two sons, John Setchel Jr. and wife, Caroline, Richard Setchel and wife, Patricia; one daughter, Raven Linkswiler; five grandchildren, Talaya, Zemirah, Zemyah, Leslie and Michael; two great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Dennis.
The family wishes to thank Nicky and Anita, of Hospice of Virginia, for their compassion during our time of grief. A special thanks to Dr. Lapinel, who made it possible for our Dad to come home just in time to go to his heavenly home, which was his dearest desire.
A funeral service will be conducted at noon Thursday, July 22, 2010, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, by the Rev. Edmund T. Freeborn III, with interment to follow in Hampton National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.
