Judson SHACKLEFORD Obituary

POQUOSON - Judson Graham "Buck" Shackleford Jr., 77, a native and lifelong resident of Poquoson, with family by his side, was called by his Lord to his heavenly home to be with family and loved ones on Sunday, April 11, 2010.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he served on various committees, and the J.O.U.A.M. Yorktown Council #66. Buck served as a Boy Scout leader; a Lay Minister; started and continued with the Laymen Quartet for 14 years. He served in the United States Army from 1951-1954. After 30 years of service, Buck retired from NASA as a purchasing agent. After his retirement, he worked part-time with several local funeral homes, the longest being at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson. Buck was the "beloved husband" for 55 years to his wife, Peggy; and an "absolutely wonderful" father to his daughter, Violet. From all his friends and working companions, he was a "living legacy of a man who loved to work." He will be greatly remembered and missed for a lifetime.
Buck was preceded in death by his parents, Judson G. Shackleford and Violet Evans Begor; a loving grandmother, Vera M. Evans; and infant granddaughter, Kaitlyn Elizabeth Andrews.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Peggy W. Shackleford; a loving daughter, Violet S. Lockard and husband, Robbie; and many extended family members and special friends.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, and other times at 250 Little Florida Road, Poquoson. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, by the Rev. Milford C. Rollins, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton.
Memorial contributions may be made to Poquoson Rescue Squad, 830 Poquoson Avenue, Poquoson, VA 23662.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time of sorrow. Mr. Buck did a wonderful job at my grandfather's funeral service in February, and I was shocked when I recently heard of his illness. May he rest with the Lord now, and be in peace.

My prayers and thoughts are with you all at this time. Mr. Buck was a wonderful man who touched many souls including my own. No doubt that as I write this he is singing proudly with a gospel quartet in Heaven, perhaps several. Much love to you all.

Peggy & Violet,

Years ago Buck worked over here at the police department as a partime dispatcher. It was during those times that I really got to know him. I am convinced, there was nothing he couldn't do. He was truly an inspiration to me. I will miss him.
I am sorry for your loss

The Shepherd family want to express our deepest symphathy in Buck's death. He was a very pleasant man to know and a Christian of the highest order. I enjoyed conversing with him about things and arguing the opposite side even if I believed like he did. He would attempt to understand the other side and was always willing to learn.
