Lamont SHINN Obituary

VIRGINIA BEACH - Lamont Allen Shinn, 80, a son, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, civil servant to our country, Scouter and Christian passed Aug. 4, 2010.
Predeceased by his son, Lamont Allen Shinn Jr., he is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen Eloise Capps Shinn; daughter, Victoria S. Callahan; three grandchildren, Ryan, Taylor and Leaha Shinn; and two great-grandsons, Zane and Gabriel Shinn all of Virginia Beach.
He attended the apprentice school of the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co., and graduated in 1953 before obtaining his electrical engineering degree at North Carolina State in 1977. Mr. Shinn served several years in the U.S. Navy before serving 28 years as a Civilian Employee at the Fleet Combat Direction Systems Support Activity Center located at Dam Neck Base, Virginia Beach, where he retired on Jan. 3, 1994.
A funeral service will be held today at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. on Laskin Rd., Virginia Beach. A private burial will be held at Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News, Va., following the funeral service. Online condolences may be made at www.hdoliver.com.
