Larry WARD Obituary

SMITHFIELD - Larry James Ward, 55, passed away at home, Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010.
Larry was born in Gastonia, N.C., and was the son of James McCoy and Fadolia Smith Ward. Larry had lived in the Hampton-Newport News area most of his life and had been a resident of Smithfield since 1996.
During the Korean Conflict, Larry faithfully served in the United States Army as a medic and a chaplain. Later, Larry enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and graduated from Trevecca Nazarene College in Nashville, Tenn. After college and while in Nashville, Larry was a tour bus guide and met and rubbed elbows with some of Country Music's finest.

Ward (Debra) of Edenton, N.C.; and sister, Catherine Ward-Matthews of Barhamsville, Va.; his special friend, Donald Reeves of Smithfield; a host of aunts and uncles and several nieces and nephews and extended family. He will be missed by everyone, especially his canine children, Penny, Buddy and Tina.
Family and friends will gather from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, in Colonial Funeral Home for visitation. A graveside committal service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Oct 1, in Albert G. Horton, Jr., Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to VA Medical Center, 100 Emancipation Drive, Hampton, VA 23667.

I knew Larry very well in college at Trevecca Nazarene college in 1974-78. It was a shock to me to find out he passed while reading the news in our college alumni news. I was engaged to Larry later in 1988. If anyone would like to contact me they can. I am giving my condolences to the family now even though it has been years.
