Lorraine Crandol Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Lorraine Smith Crandol, 89, joined her beloved husband, "Tip," in eternal rest on Friday, Oct. 23, 2009.
Lorraine was born March 4, 1920, and grew up in Poquoson. She was a graduate of Poquoson High School and Mary Washington College, with graduate studies at The College of William and Mary, University of Virginia, and Old Dominion University. She taught in the Hampton and Newport News school systems for many years and retired from Newport News.
Lorraine was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church, Poquoson, and the Adult Bible Class; Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #110, Yorktown; Daughters of the American Revolution, Charles Parrish Chapter; Homemaker's Club of Poquoson; the Virginia Education Association (life member); and the Poquoson Retired Teachers' Association.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Tilford R. "Tip" Crandol.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary C. Snyder and husband, Earl of Newport News; a son, Frank T. Crandol and wife, Donna of Poquoson; a brother, Robert E. Smith and wife, Carol of Poquoson; grandchildren, Erin S. Dixon and husband, Ricky, Molly S. Avery and husband, Sam, Lauren S. Roche and husband, Justin, Wendy C. Harrison and husband, John, Ty Crandol, Michael Bell, and Scott Bell; great-grandchildren, Mary Blake Avery and Robert Earl "Mac" Avery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. tonight, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson. Funeral services will be conducted at the graveside at noon Monday, at Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News, by the Rev. Katherine Gray. Following the service, the family will receive friends at The Hidenwood, 50 Wellesley Drive, Newport News.
Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Poquoson Rescue Squad, 830 Poquoson, VA 23662.
