To the family of Lou Hooks,
He was one of the greatest Police Officers Poquoson has ever had. He saved our son's life and his concern didn't stop the night of the wreck. He continued to check on him for years. We are sorry for your family's loss and for those who never had the chance to know him. To know him was to love him and respect him!! We are sure he continues to be a guardian angel in heaven as he was here on earth for so many.
Sincerely,
Paul and Faye Morse and Family

My family and I have been truly blessed for the last four years being able to live next door to Lou and Sheila. We became such good friends that it seems like we have always known them. Lou was constantly lending a helping hand wherever needed, joking with our girls, helping out with our pets, and just plain "looking out" for us as a family. Up until the night before he passed away, he was helping me prepare for the effects of hurricane Earl that was on its way. Lou will be forever in our hearts. We are so much better for having known him. I love you Sheila and will be here for you during this very difficult time. Love, Becky

I send my sincere expression of sympathy and love. When I visited my daughter and her husband in Carrollton, I met the Hooks. I formed an immediate friendship with them and bonded as they made me feel like family. Lou always had me in stitches with his humor and smile. With every trip I made to Carrollton, we became closer friends. I will forever remember his laughter, humor and smiles. I thank God for my friendship with Lou and Sheila. Sharon Wood

I have been deeply affected since hearing about my Uncle Lou’s passing. I grew up hundreds of miles from Hampton and was not able to see Uncle Lou and his family nearly as often as I would have liked, but when I did have the opportunity to spend time with him it was always great times. Life can be cruel sometimes in that circumstances can create great distances between family members and loved ones. But in all my reflections of Uncle Lou since hearing this sad news I can tell you that he was a great man to me, and I have only the fondest of memories spending time with Uncle Lou and my dad every summer. Know that our family will continue to pray for you during this difficult time, and I again offer my most heartfelt sympathy for your loss.

The Struble family extends their deepest sympathy to the Sheila, Lindsay and Karena. I met Lou the day he was hired with the Poquoson Police Department. Lou was honest, warm and always kind to everyone he met. The Bible says, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they are the children of God." Lou was a peacemaker and demonstrated that by example to the many people he touched. We miss you.

I have lost a part of my family. I have only known Lou for the last four years and he has grown on me like nobody else has. His enthusiasm for life and his way with humor will always be a place in my heart. Lou was so very special to me and my family. His sense of humor and ability to always make someone smile (even when he was down) was the true blessing from God that he was able to share. I will miss him and will always remember to keep on smiling even when things seem to be at their worst. Thank You Shiela, Lindsay, and Karina for sharing him with our family and being such a great neighbor.

Dear Karena and all of your family,
Just want you to know how very sorry I am for your loss of Lou. When met your father, Karena, I could tell he was a very loving father, and later loving grandfather, with an easy smile despite any adversity. His contagious humor helped all those around him to feel comfortable and to smile and laugh! I feel very honored to have met him and I hope that as I grow older, I will be able to take my life's twist and turns as graciously as Lou Hooks did! My heart goes out to all of you.

Shelia, I heard the news of Lou's passing from my son Jamie. I haven't been able to get it off my mind. I have so many good memories of Lou and of you. We had good times a long time ago and I will always have those. Lou was good to me and watched out for me when I was married to Paul and he was away in the Army. I will never forget the "nickle" bet he had with Paul. But he didn't lose that bet, because he got you Sheila. I wish I could be there with you all, but know that my thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family.
Sincerly, Janice

I am so sorry for the loss of Lou,I worked many years with him and the late Lt Ronnie L Singleton on 4-12 shift at Poquoson Police Dept. we had some very exciting nights and some hair raising ones, but we got the job done.I wouldn't take anything for the pictures and memories. Fantastic comedy at times. There were many nights of weariness brought on by Lou's pain, but he would just grin and jump in that police car and torment me by calling in numbers on the blue list that was not on my list, this of course brought on a desire to choke him. We all loved him thou, even his comedy . The Lord has taken away his pain. God bless his family. His dispatcher...Bettie H Jeffery

Lou- what can you say about Lou? He never met a stranger and always made you feel like one of the family. Lou was a kind, generous and fun loving man who could bring a smile to the saddest face, I know he brought one to ours many times. We know that he will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Sheila and the family.
He will live on in all those he touched.

Lou was a kind and patient grandfather who set a wonderful example for his grandson, Christopher, of how to be a strong man, husband, and father. Chris is blessed to have known him and to have received the gift of his guidance. Sheila, you were blessed to have found a true prince. God bless you for being a strong and loving wife. May you be reminded of your sweetheart daily with memories that bring you smiles and laughter.
We love you dearly. -Janet & Chris

Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Hooks family as you endure these sad times missing Lou. I have known Lou since 1995 when he was my Sgt. and friend while I worked with him daily at the Poquoson Police Department. As everyone knows, Lou was a great man who was professional at work while being able to still share a kind word and be friendly to everyone he met. Lou taught me many things over the past 15 years both professionally and in my private life. My children have always called him "Uncle Lou" and will also miss him greatly. One thing that everyone knew about Lou was how deeply he loved his wife and children. It was his attitude of love and respect that helped hm to face many issues that he had to face and he shared this attitude with everyone that knew him.I know Lou faced many problems in recent years and yet he was always willing to stand up and fight when it was time. The respect he has earned is tremendous and for the many lives he touched he will be remembered and missed by many. Bobbi and I pray that you all know just how very much Lou ment to us all and how blessed we were to have known him. I know that Lou is happy and pain free now as he is with our Lord and that he will continue to look down upon us and continue to help us along lifes path. We look forward to one day seeing him again when we join him in glory. May God bless your entire family both now in the days ahead as we face the future. Lou will always remain in our hearts and minds as a truly honorable man that will be missed greatly.

First, Darryl and I extend our sincere sympathy to the family. If you did not know Lou, you missed out. Lou could light up a room with his personality under any circumstance. His laughter was contagious and his practical jokes were just "tops". I remember when Lou and Shelia got married, and Shelia you stayed the course, "in sickness and and health". LH had a horrible accident shortly after he and Shelia married which left him in chronic pain and many, many operations later. He never complained. Shelia never complained. I think if there were ever a TRUE love on this earth it was Shelia and Lou! Their union produced some beautiful children. I am glad that God put Lou in my path; I believe that God puts people in our path for a reason. Lou had something to teach us all. Through all the pain and suffering he endured, and all that Shelia went through just taking care of him, still they embraced life, taking the good with the bad and the bitter with the sweet. I know that LH suffered pain every day of his life, but he never complained, and if you are a chronic pain sufferer, you know what I mean. He wore it well. I will miss Lou, and I will try not to cry, because that is not what he would want us to do. I will celebrate his life here with us and ask God to receive him into His loving arms. I am certain that Garry pulled right up in that 'ol Ford Galaxie to meet Lou and they are together again. As each of us leaves this life, I believe LH and Garry will be right there to greet us. God Bless you Lou Hooks, and God Bless the family who will miss you.
