Lucille Dorband Obituary

NORFOLK - The Rev. Lucille S. Dorband, 84, of Tabor Court, passed away, Oct. 27, 2009, in DePaul Medical Center.
A native of Milwaukee, Wis., she was the daughter of the late Leonard W. and Hulda S. Scheels and the widow of Clarence Arthur Dorband. She was a graduate of Old Dominion University. Lucille was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and Confirmation. After attending Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago where she received her masters of Divinity, she served her internship at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Norfolk. She served as Pastor at Solomon Lutheran and St. Mary's Pine Lutheran in the Shenandoah Valley. In 1989 she retired to Norfolk, Va., where she continued to serve as supply pastor while caring for her husband.
The Rev. Dorband is survived by her daughter, Linda Talay and husband, Theodore A. Talay of Newport News; her son, Keith R. Dorband and wife, Nancy of Virginia Beach; five granddaughters, Tamara Arnold of Rippey, Iowa, Bethany Francavilla and husband, John of Suffolk, Christina Kuhn and husband, Patrick of Newport News, Lisa Harter and husband, Tom of Knoxville, Tenn., and Whitney Dorband of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Marvin and Harold Scheels both of Wisconsin; and nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her son, Glen C. Dorband; and her brother, Earl Scheels.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Timothy Lutheran Church with Pastor David Penman officiating and the Rev. Jean Bozeman preaching. A reception will follow in the church social hall. A graveside service will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in Colonial Grove Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
