Marie WENZEL Obituary

POQUOSON - Marie Wenzel, 87, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died on Sunday, May 23, 2010, peacefully at home.
Marie was born in Philadelphia on New Year's Eve, 1922. She was fond of saying that she could always find a party on her birthday. She attended Rosemount College in Philadelphia excelling in English and Literature. Marie was a career civil servant working for the FBI, the Immigration and Naturalization Service, and for the U.S. Department of Agriculture Eastern Regional Agricultural Research Center, retiring with thirty years of federal service. She married Francis G. Wenzel in 1948 and made their home in the Mount Airy section of northern Philadelphia. Frank and Marie raised six wonderful children and were proud of their 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Marie lived in Philadelphia until the death of her husband in 1992. She moved to Poquoson, living close to her daughter for two years, and then moved to White Oak outside of Pittsburgh to be near another daughter, Cherie Kubas, and her family. She resided there until 2001 when she moved back to Poquoson to live with Ginny and Terry.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Francis G. Wenzel; and her daughter, Marie Louise Wenzel Setoudeh.
She is survived by a sister, Katherine D. Quindlen of Fairfax, Va.; four daughters and a son, Sharon Kern and husband, Robert of Baltimore, Md., Virginia (Ginny) Johnson, and husband, Terry of Poquoson, Francis G. Wenzel Jr. and wife, Joann of Jermyn, Pa., Sheila Fukawa and son-in-law, Thomas Fukawa of Tabb, Cherie Kubas and husband, Mark of Huntingdon, Pa.; a son-in-law, Michael Setoudeh of Castro Valley, Calif.; grandchildren, Brendon, Hilary (Munger), Patrick, and Jeremy Johnson, Marc and Aaron Kubas, Ruth Marie, Michael, Siobhan, Alicia, and Grant Wenzel, Matthew Mugford, Ryan, Carl, and Leotie Fukawa, and Emily and Sarah Setoudeh; great-grandchildren, Lorea, Naiara, and Ainhoa Johnson, Emily, Owen, and Aiden Munger, and Rowan Wenzel.
The family will receive friends at a visitation from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home in Poquoson. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church by the Rev. Lawrence J. Mullaney Jr. Interment of Marie's ashes will be held later at St. Kateri Catholic Church.
