Mary C. HARRIS

PLAIN VIEW - On Sunday, July 4, 2010, the Lord reached down and picked a beautiful rose from His garden, Mary Catherine Kauffman Harris. Mary was born on March 4, 1915, to the late Easu and Mattie Meade Kauffman, in Little Plymouth, Va.
At an early age, Mary gave her life to the Lord and became a member of Second Mount Olive Baptist Church, Little Plymouth. She served as a member of the Usher Board, Missionary Circle and Dietary Committee. Later she became a member of Union Prospect Baptist Church, Cologne, where she served as a member of the Missionary Circle. Mary received her education in the King and Queen County Schools. She was joined in holy matrimony to George Percell Harris, and to this union, two children were born.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Percell Harris; and daughter, Georgia Ophelia Hunter.
Mary will be remembered for her warm smile as well as her love of cooking and flowers.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted daughter, Mattie Elizabeth Holmes (Tilton Sr.) of Shacklefords; four devoted grandchildren, Wanda Hunter of Hampton, Deborah Carter (Todd) of Cobbs Creek, Howard Hunter Jr. of Shacklefords, and Tilton Holmes Jr. (Wendy) of Roanoke; 16 great-grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren; two sister-in-laws; three 'special' granddaughters; two 'special' great-grandchildren; and a devoted host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at the Union Prospect Baptist Church, Cologne. Interment in the church cemetery.
