Al and I had known Mary for over 30 years. I travelled with her to many dog shows and listened to her many wonderful stories about her family and the dog world. She was always sensible, caring, and pretty adventurous and we had great times. We send our sympathy to her family and know she will be greatly missed.

From dogs, to horses, to school, to life - Mary Hayes and her family were an important part of growing up. I learned so much about life, animal care, and just getting along from you all. Mary truly shaped a large part of my growing up. After 30 years off, I have returned to horses - where I first met Mary. I never see a piece of bailing twine on the ground that I do not think of Kathy and her unfortunate mare. From that sad accident I learned to never take a chance with an animal. Stop, pick it up, put it away or don't do it in the first place. In spite of some sadness, the Hayes family contributed to many of the best moments of my life. Mama Hayes was always there for all of us.
My thought and prayers go with you as you face the coming days. May you find God's Grace and Care as you celebrate the life of this remarkable lady.

Nana
I just want to say that I love you. It was sad to here that you are gone, even though I know you are in a better place, it feels a bit like the end of an era. Our last grandparent passing on. I have been thinking a lot today about working in your garden during the summers for pocket money, planting tomatoes and flowers, dodging dog poop with the lawnmower, lunches and long afternoons with everyone
together at colony road during the holidays, the crab apple tree in the front yard, all of your funny sayings, calling me fat Ryan, giving me a hard time for always living outside of Newport News, the beach room, Pawpaw giving insulin shots, ET and the rest of the dog pound, your old lady afro and the proud look you had at times.

I guess it has just made me realize how important you are to me. All those things are deeply ingrained in me and I feel proud to be a part of our family. I love you all so much.
