Mary WALLS Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Mary Lee Stockner Walls, 68, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 24, 2010.
She was a native of Galax, Va., and graduated from Galax High School in 1959. She later graduated from National Business College in Roanoke with a degree in accounting. Mary resided in Newport News for most of her adult life and was a devoted member of Deer Park Baptist Church since 1968. Mary loved and served her Savior and her church without ceasing, always demonstrating an attitude of faith and love in Christ no matter the circumstances. Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James C. and Opal Spurling Stockner.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 47 years, James R. Walls; her daughter, Teresa W. Hubert and husband, Paul of Newport News; her son, Tony Walls and wife, Sherry of York County; five grandchildren, Jessica, Eddie and Melissa Hubert and Ashton and Nathan Walls; her sister, Wanda Stockner Reeves and husband, Butch of Richmond; and numerous extended family members and friends.
Second only to her devotion to Jesus Christ, Mary lived for those holidays and special occasions that brought her family together to share joy and laughter. A warm wit, a gracious smile and a generous spirit, she will be missed.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, at Deer Park Baptist Church. Interment will follow a service on Wednesday, April 28, at Cox's Chapel Methodist Church in Mouth of Wilson, Va.
Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Jim,

I will always remember Mary because it was through her which God worked and gave me the courage to proclaim God's
great works by giving my testimony on
my last visit to Deer Park Baptist Church. I talked to her that night and through conversation told her a little about my story and she seemed so
interested and spoke up and said "Well, Marianne has something to tell." I began telling my story and you could here a pin drop it got so quiet, but I would have never gave testimony that evening if it were not for Mary. Our dear Lord worked through Mary so that others could here my testimony and bring them closer to Him. She is in a Great Place with the Lord, but sorry that I didn't have the opportunity to speak with her during her last days. Jim, your family will stay in my heart forever and Mary always in my prayers.

I worked with Mary at Eggleston, Smith & Company back in the early eighties. From my first day on the job I loved Mary! She made me feel so welcomed and helped me learn my job quickly.

Mary always had that wonderful smile that was contagious and her spirit was ever so sweet. We had some good times working together and I will never forget her!

My heart and prayers are with you, Jim, and your family at this most difficult time. May the precious memories of your beloved Mary comfort you always.

"Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. We live by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So we make it our goal to please Him, whether we are at home in the body of away from it. For we must all appear before judgment seat of Christ..." 2 Corinthians 5:6-10
We did not have the priviledge of meeting Ms. Mary Lee, but we have met her daughter Teresa and her family. And we have the assurance thru Jesus Christ, our Lord, that one day we will meet her in paradise.
