Mary MERRITT Obituary

YORKTOWN - Mary Sue Merritt, 84, passed away on Nov. 29, 2010.
She was a native of Coushatta, La. She married her sweetheart, B. Harry Merritt, a WWII Naval Pilot on Dec. 1, 1945. They lived 30 years of their 65 years of marriage in Bradenton, Fla. She was a loving mother to her children. While in Florida, she was an employee of several banks as a bank teller and loan officer. They relocated to Grafton, in 1995 to be closer to their family. She had many friends at the York County Senior Center where she was an avid bridge player.
She is preceded in death by her grandson, Craig L. Hasty II.
Mary leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband, B. Harry Merritt; sons, Christopher Collins Merritt and his wife, Penny of Yorktown, Fredric Scott Merritt and his wife, Nancy of Potomac Falls; daughter, Nancy Merritt Hasty of Oxford, Ala.; four grandchildren, Christina Merritt Majewicz and her husband, Peter of Yorktown, Kelly Kristin Merritt of Potomac Falls, Lance C. Merritt of Jupiter, Fla., and Nicole A. Hasty of Louisville, Ky.; three great-grandchildren, Amanda Marie, Joseph Collins and Peter John Majewicz who will miss their beloved "Nana"; and brother, Phillip Bolton Collins of Baton Rouge, La.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Mary's life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 3, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 300 Ella Taylor Road, in Yorktown. Interment will be at a later date.

Dearest Harry & family,
My sincere sympathy, love and prayers go out to you and your precious family at this very sad time. It is always difficult to say goodbye and I shall miss my friend, Sue, and our visits and laughs.

God has blessed Sue with a beautiful heavenly home with Jesus and the angels for company. Sue earned this rest with the saints in glory, but we will miss her terribly.
