Melvin McCOWN Obituary
Melvin loved the outdoors and opportunities to socialize with friends. He also was an avid New York Yankees baseball fan. He joined the Open Door Full Gospel Baptist Church, in 2002, and he thoroughly enjoyed having conversions with his pastor, the late Bishop Arthur L House Jr. If you wanted to find Mr. Melvin, you could often locate him in his garden; relaxing in his yard; or on the porch enjoying the beauty of God's world.
He was preceded in death by his son, James Melvin McCown, however left to cherish his memory are his wife, Constance McCown; two daughters, Dollie McCown-McMillan (Andra), and Mary McCown-Ledbetter (Kenneth) of Hampton, Va.; three grandchildren, Lamar McCown of Laurel, Md., Coretta Denise McCown, and Stacey Walston (Curtis), both of Charlotte, N.C.; a special nephew, Moses McCown of Norfolk, Va., and five other nephews; a mentee, Floyd Bullock of Columbia, S.C., who always cherished Mr. McCown as a father figure; and his special friend and care provider, Ms. Paulette Reynolds.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today, Aug. 20, 2011, at Open Door Full Gospel Baptist Church. Following the celebration service, family and friends are invited to fellowship together at 103 Red Robin Turn, Hampton, Va. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Va.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to his church building fund, Open Door Full Gospel Baptist Church, 105 East Cummings Avenue, Hampton, VA.
